About Us

PJ's Canvas was created by Pam and Jay in 1978 originally as a sail-making business at the Napa Valley Marina. By the early 1990s, the primary focus had shifted from sails to awnings built for a wide variety of commercial, residential and industrial applications. Throughout its over 30 years in business, PJ's Canvas has specialized in creating innovative design solutions for its clients. "When other companies would turn down a job because it was too difficult, we would accept it for the challenge," comments owner Jay Gardner. Above all, PJ's Canvas believes that it can work with its clients to satisfy their needs, no matter how unconventional or unique. PJ's Canvas has an extensive clientele base around the Bay Area including many premier restaurants, hotels and wineries; see the portfolio page for a small sampling of jobs that PJ's Canvas has done.

When a client approaches PJ's Canvas with an interest in an awning, he or she is individually met with to clarify the objectives of the project and assist the client in making the best decision regarding his or her needs. As part of this process, a complimentary appointment and estimate is scheduled at the client's place of residence or business. Many times, a simple viewing of the awning portfolio will be adequate to facilitate a decision. For situations requiring a more complex application, PJ's Canvas uses its design experience to create the best solution for its clients' needs. Once an awning design is chosen, PJ's Canvas then drafts a proposal outlining the costs, materials and timeline of completion, which is faxed, emailed, or mailed to the client. Computer-generated drawings and graphic mock-ups can be provided for the purpose of permit applications for a reasonable fee.
